Embassy of Nepal and BALPP Host Regional Diplomatic Dialogue on Mindful Leadership and Spiritual Wellbeing in Colombo

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA – May 6, 2026 – The Embassy of Nepal, in partnership with the Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership & Public Policy (BALPP), successfully convened the Regional Diplomatic Dialogue on Mindful Leadership and Spiritual Wellbeing on Saturday, 2nd May 2026, at the Nepal Embassy premises, Colombo 03. The high-level dialogue brought together diplomatic leaders, His Excellency Dr. Purna Bahadur Nepali, Ambassador of Nepal to Sri Lanka , His Excellency The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka , Her Excellency The Ambassador of Indonesia to Sri Lanka,academics, and spiritual practitioners to explore the role of mindfulness in contemporary leadership, governance, and regional cooperation. The event was compered by Ms. Hubika Joshi, Secretary of the Nepal-Sri Lanka Friendship Association, who facilitated proceedings and ensured seamless coordination between speakers and sessions. His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Purna Bahadur Nepal, Embassy of Nepal, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing Nepal’s commitment to fostering dialogue on values-based leadership across the region. “Mindful leadership is not only a personal practice but a necessity in today’s complex world,” the Ambassador stated.

Key highlights of the programme included:

– Dr. Tara de Mel, Executive Director of BALPP, introduced the Mindful Leadership Regional Initiative, a new platform to promote research and training on mindfulness in public service.
– Venerable K. Dhammaoshada Thero, representing Nissaranavanaya Meditation Monastery and its Chief Meditation Master, Venerable U. Dhammajiva, led guided mindful sitting meditation sessions.
– Dr. Kaushalya Perera, Mindfulness Coach, presented on the Science of Mindfulness, bridging neuroscience with leadership practice.
– Ms. Hubika Joshi also led a session on Mindful Movement, demonstrating practical techniques for stress management and focus for leaders, in addition to her role as compere.

The dialogue concluded with an open discussion among participants and a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Vijay Raut, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Nepal, who reiterated the Embassy’s dedication to strengthening Nepal-Sri Lanka cultural and academic ties.“This dialogue reflects BALPP’s mission to advance innovative approaches to leadership and public policy,” said Dr. Tara de Mel.The event was attended by diplomats, academics, Rotaract and youth leaders, and representatives from civil society. It marks the first in a series of regional initiatives planned by BALPP and the Embassy of Nepal for 2026. The event was concluded with refreshments and joyful and mindful networking .
